5 St. Patrick's Day Coffee Recipes

St. Patrick's Day is a time for honouring Irish heritage (and claiming you have some yourself, even if it's a tenuous 1⁄16 on your mother's side) around the world with big celebrations, parades, and for the coffee-obsessed (like us), a time for trying out new Irish-themed coffee drinks.

Whether you're trying to keep warm while we desperately wait for spring, looking for a festive twist on your usual coffee, or searching for the ultimate Irish Espresso Martini recipe, you're in the right place. This is our guide to St. Patrick's Day coffee.

Thankfully, we have a hack for making Irish coffee that you won't find anywhere else: the Grind x Baileys Coffee Pods. These home-compostable, Nespresso® compatible pods combine our speciality-grade coffee with the iconic flavour of Baileys Original Irish Cream, minus the alcohol. All you have to do is add some hot, frothy milk, and you immediately have the perfect non-alcoholic Irish coffee.

Guinness aside, these are our favourite Irish drinks to enjoy this 17th March (and beyond).

Classic Irish Coffee Recipe

A classic Irish coffee is a cocktail made with Irish whiskey, cream, and coffee, thought to have originated in Ireland in the early 1940s.

Ingredients. Serves: 1.

2 tbsp double cream

150ml freshly-brewed coffee, using our speciality-grade whole bean and ground coffee or our compostable coffee pods

50ml Irish whiskey

½ - 1 tsp brown sugar

Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Method.

  1. Lightly whip the double cream so that it's slightly thickened, then set aside.
  2. Pour the hot coffee into a mug or heatproof glass, then add the Irish whiskey and brown sugar.
  3. Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then gently pour the cream on the top and finish with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Tips for the Best Irish Coffee.

Whether you're using coffee pods, beans, or grounds, use speciality-grade coffee to get the best-tasting Irish coffee. We love using our Dark Blend in this recipe as its bittersweet, rich flavour profile pairs perfectly with the whiskey and cream.

Matcha Latte Recipe

Maybe not typically Irish, but definitely green, which means it counts as a St. Patrick's Day drink if you ask us—just don't ask anyone who actually is Irish. Our matcha latte recipe uses our ceremonial-grade matcha for a drink that's fresh, creamy, and full of antioxidants.

1 tsp honey, maple syrup, sugar, or alternative sweetener
