Another fruity sweet twist on a classic matcha latte, this blueberry matcha recipe is a creamy and refreshing wellness boost.

Using fresh blueberries and ceremonial-grade matcha, this blueberry matcha latte recipe takes your daily matcha to new levels.

Whether you make it hot or iced, it's full of healthy, wellness-boosting things like antioxidants, vitamins, and naturally-occurring caffeine for a long-lasting energy kick.

Blueberry Matcha Latte Ingredients

For the blueberry syrup:

150g fresh or frozen blueberries

20g sugar (brown sugar works great in this recipe, but use what you've got)

1 tbsp water

½ tsp vanilla extract

For the matcha latte:

1 tsp Grind matcha powder

50ml hot water

150ml milk or plant-based alternative (we love using oat milk in our matcha lattes)

How to Make Blueberry Syrup for Matcha

This is also a syrup we love stirring into oats, yoghurt, and anything we think vaguely goes with blueberry.

  1. Pop your blueberries, sugar, and a tablespoon of water in a pan over a medium heat.
  2. The blueberries will start to release their juices. If it looks too dry, add another splash of water.
  3. Add the vanilla extract.
  4. Leave to simmer for around 5-10 minutes.
  5. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth.
  6. Strain the syrup to remove any solids if you want a smoother consistency for your blueberry matcha latte.

You can keep your leftover blueberry syrup in the fridge for up to 10 days, but it's very delicious so it's unlikely that you'll need to store it for that long.

How to Make a Blueberry Matcha Latte

A step-by-step guide.

  1. Prepare your matcha by whisking 1g matcha powder with around 50ml filtered hot water (not boiling water, which will burn the matcha). The mixture should be smooth and consistent, without any lumps.
  2. Heat your milk using a milk frother or in a pan over a medium heat.
  3. Combine a tablespoon or two of the blueberry syrup with the matcha and steamed milk. Stir well and enjoy.

How to Make an Iced Blueberry Matcha Latte

For when the temps go up (and for when they don't).

  1. Prepare your matcha in the same way as above and fill a tall glass with ice.
  2. Pour the matcha over the ice, and then add 150ml cold milk or plant-based alternative.
  3. Pour a tablespoon or two of the blueberry syrup into the glass and stir it up.

Is Blueberry Matcha Healthy?

Yes! Matcha is associated with a huge range of health benefits, including heart, brain, and liver health. It's packed with antioxidants and vitamins, and three of matcha tea's ingredients—L-theanine, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and caffeine—can help with cognitive performance and mood.

Plus, matcha has about ⅓ of the caffeine in coffee, and its chemical composition means you don't get that caffeine crash or jitters. Instead, you get a healthy boost of energy that lasts for hours.

Combine this with blueberries, which are also rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and you’ve got a supercharged drink that tastes delicious.

If you want to forgo the sugar in this recipe, you can use an alternative natural sweetener like maple syrup, honey, or stevia.

What Does Blueberry Matcha Taste Like?

A blueberry matcha latte is a sweet, fruity, and creamy drink that combines the earthy, slightly bitter notes of matcha with the juicy sweetness of fresh blueberries.

Our ceremonial-grade matcha has an earthy umami flavour with a natural nuttiness and grassy sweetness. This is perfectly balanced by the bright, fresh, and juicy sweetness of blueberries, creating a refreshing and delicious drink.
