Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe
No, it's not basic. It's delicious. This is our guide to making the VIP of winter coffees: the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Enjoy it shamelessly.
How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte
It's no secret that pumpkin spice works well with coffee–it’s become a famous fall favourite for a reason. Our quick and easy pumpkin spice latte recipe brings your favourite seasonal café coffee home, so you don’t need to leave the warmth of your house, or get out of your wearable blanket and fluffy slippers. It also makes your kitchen smell really, really good.
Creamy, sweet, and filled with warming winter spices, this is our step-by-step guide to creating an unbeatable cosy season treat.
But firstly, you should know that you do NOT need this recipe if you have a coffee pod machine: we created our new Pumpkin Spice Coffee Pods for this very reason.
All you need to do is pop one in your coffee pod machine (all our compostable coffee pods are compatible with original style Nespresso® pod machines), then add some hot milk steamed in our Milk Frother, and a teaspoon of sugar, and that's your pumpkin spiced latte, sorted. Way quicker than standing in a café queue, and even quicker than this recipe. It's the ultimate hack of the season.
Pumpkin Spice Latte Ingredients
Everything you need for one serving:
- One shot of espresso, or around 35ml of freshly brewed strong coffee, using our ground or whole bean coffee in our House Blend. If you're using a coffee pod machine and not our Pumpkin Spice Pods (why?), then brew one coffee capsule per serving.
- 250ml milk, or plant-based alternative
- 2 tsp pumpkin purée
- 1 tsp sugar or maple syrup
- Pinch of ground cinnamon, plus extra to serve
- Pinch of ground ginger
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
- Whipped cream (optional but encouraged)

Easy-to-follow directions for an at-home pumpkin spice latte.
- Add the milk, pumpkin purée, and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat. Slowly heat until hot, but make sure it doesn't boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and the coffee or espresso.
- Pour the mixture into your favourite mug or heatproof glass and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
How Many Calories in a Pumpkin Spice Latte?
The calories in a pumpkin spice latte will vary depending on your choice of milk—whole milk has a higher calorific content than skimmed milk or almond milk, for instance—and whether you top your latte with whipped cream. Our recipe contains around 180 calories, but you can reduce this by skipping the whipped cream, choosing a lower calorie milk option, or using a zero-calorie sweetener instead of sugar.
What Does Pumpkin Spice Latte Taste Like?
The "spice" in a pumpkin spice latte refers to sweet, warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice. These spices are most commonly used in baking, especially in autumn and winter; a lot of your favourite seasonal bakes are filled with these spices!
Pumpkin purée has a subtle nutty flavour and sweetness that works perfectly with these spices. You then have the deep and intense aromas of coffee and the creaminess of milk to create a unique drink that's filled with rich flavours.
