Grind is a coffee company that lives in London.
But we take matcha as seriously as we take coffee (very seriously). Our ceremonial-grade matcha is sourced from Uji, Japan, where it’s hand-picked and stone-ground to bring you a smooth taste, full body, and bright flavour
Matcha is made from finely powdered dried green tea leaves. We source ours from the home of matcha in Uji, Japan, where the highest quality green tea leaves are grown. It's the purest and most potent form of green tea, full of vitamins and antioxidants, plus a little naturally-occuring caffeine that gives you a sustainable boost of energy.
Ceremonial-grade matcha means it's of the highest grade, so you know you're getting a matcha powder that makes smooth, fresh, and flavourful drinks. We love using our matcha to make lattes, smoothies, and iced shakes.
Mix ½ tsp (1g) matcha with 15ml hot water until a smooth paste forms. Add another 70ml hot water and mix until consistent. From there, you can add more hot water, hot or cold milk, or pop it in your morning smoothie.
Never use boiling water: it burns the matcha, giving it a bitter, sour taste.
We're on a mission to change the way we all drink coffee (and now matcha) for the better—roasting speciality coffee that's ethically sourced from sustainable farms around the world. We make home-compostable pods from plants, pack our bean and ground coffee into compostable bags, our iced coffee into recyclable cans, and we avoid single-use plastic like it's the plague (because in many ways, it is).
Plus, with our charity, the Grind Better Coffee Foundation®, we recover ocean-bound plastic for every coffee pod, iced coffee can, bag of coffee, cup of coffee, carton of coffee (we work hard to keep up with your caffeine habits) we sell.

Frequently Asked Questions
Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder. It comes from the leaves of the same plant (Camellia sinensis) that regular green tea comes from, but it is grown and processed differently: to make matcha, farmers cover and grow the leaves in the shade before harvesting, steaming, drying, and grinding the leaves. This increases their chlorophyll content, not only making them a vibrant green but adding nutrients and flavours that you won’t find in standard green tea.
Rather than steeping the leaves in hot water like you would other teas, these leaves are ground into a fine powder.
Ceremonial-grade matcha is the highest quality matcha available. It is made using the finest, smallest shade-grown leaves, which is why it has such a vibrant green colour and a naturally sweet and smooth flavour that you don’t get from culinary-grade matcha.
Ceremonial-grade matcha is packed with antioxidants, including flavonoids, polyphenols, and vitamin C, that protect your cells and combat oxidative stress.
It’s also high in L-theanine, an amino acid known for its calming effects. Combined with its naturally-occurring caffeine, this results in a natural energy boost that improves cognitive function and focus for hours.
We break down all of the amazing health benefits of matcha on our blog.
Our matcha powder contains naturally-occurring caffeine, about 35mg per serving (1g). For context, the average cup of coffee contains around 95mg caffeine.
One of the great things about matcha is that its chemical composition means you don’t get a caffeine crash or the coffee jitters. Instead, you get a sustained boost of energy.
We recommend using 1g (½ tsp) per serving. If you like your matcha a little stronger, you can increase this to 2g, but we wouldn’t suggest using more than this.
To prepare your matcha, mix ½ tsp (1g) powder with 15ml hot water until a smooth paste forms. Then add another 70ml hot water and whisk until consistent.
Our top tip is to never use boiling water. It burns the matcha, giving it a bitter, sour taste.

You’re in the right place: shop the Grind Matcha Tea Set.
This is the same kit we’ve been using in our cafés and coffee shops for years. The set includes a bamboo whisk and spoon, and a ceramic bowl and whisk holder.
Start by whisking 1g of matcha powder with 15ml hot water. When a smooth paste has formed, add another 70ml hot water, whisk until consistent, then top with another 150ml hot water.
Remember to use hot, not boiling water. And you get bonus points if it’s filtered water.
To make a matcha latte, start by preparing your matcha by whisking 1g matcha powder with around 50ml hot water. Heat and froth 180-250ml milk or plant-based alternative, then blend with your matcha mixture and give it a good stir.
To make an iced matcha latte, prepare your matcha by whisking 1g matcha powder with around 50ml hot water, then blend your matcha mixture with 180-250ml cold milk or plant-based alternative. Serve over ice.

Matcha powder is highly sensitive to oxidation. Exposure to light, air, and moisture can degrade its flavour and quality, so the best way to store it is in an airtight container away from direct sunlight. We recommend popping that container in the fridge to keep your matcha powder cool and dry.
The only ingredients in our ceremonial-grade matcha powder is pure Japanese matcha green tea.
