16 Ways to Find a Little Joy

A joy intervention, inspired by a mascot of simple joy: Miffy. Here are our favourite simple pleasures.

The world can feel a little (a lot) overwhelming at times. Especially if you're living in a busy city like London or just feel like your constantly moving at 100mph. Which is why the small joys in your day-to-day matter more than ever.

Partnering with Miffy, who we think is the true mascot of simple joy, encouraged us to press pause and think about all the ways we find a little joy in our daily routines. It also encouraged us to reconnect with our inner children. And that's always a good idea, because being a child is fun and we definitely didn't appreciate it enough back then.

To brighten your own daily routine, shop the limited edition Grind | Miffy collection.

We asked the people who brought this collaboration to life for their tried and tested little joys. For bigger joys, please look for a friend with a yacht and a country with a significantly warmer climate.

1. Getting stuck into a good book.

And when I say "good", I'm not talking high-brow literature: I'm talking romantasy smut, melodramatic thrillers, and revisiting The Hunger Games. So no, please never ask me what I'm reading.

But I do recommend the ACOTAR series, Fourth Wing, and Silver Elite if you're looking to lose yourself in a fantasy world.  Alice

2. Complimenting a stranger.

It's like joybaiting. It’s a surefire way to make someone smile and it’s a great feeling. If you like someone’s jacket, tell them.   Stacey

3. A sweet treat walk.

Fresh air and a little movement is famously good for you, and it’s a whole lot more fun when there’s a little treat involved, like a fresh pastry or an iced coffee (or both).  Bec

4. Dogs.

Cuddle them. Pet them. Stroke their bellies. Go to a park and watch them tirelessly fetching a ball over and over again. Dogs love life. Interacting with them is a guaranteed dopamine hit. My life has improved exponentially since I got my dog Donny.  Sarah

5. Focused music time.

Turn on your do not disturb and listen to a new album or an old favourite from start to finish. No distractions.  Conor

(Can you tell Conor was a music student).

6. Podcasts.

There is a podcast for every niche and every interest: food, art, history, pop culture, parenting, politics, or just general silliness. I always listen to one on my daily walk. My personal favourite has to be Shameless.  Lucy

7. Sauna.

This is my go-to for stress relief. It releases endorphins, lowers cortisol, and gets your blood flowing. Bonus points if you pair it with a cold plunge.  Natasha

8. Clean sheets. Clean pjs. Glass of wine.

Otherwise known as the holy trinity. Best enjoyed after an everything shower for maximum enjoyment.  Izzy

9. As much sunlight as possible.

You might be thinking “I’m in the UK, what are you talking about”, but that means that every ray of sunshine shouldn’t go unappreciated. I’m outside the minute I see the sun poke through the clouds and it instantly makes me feel better.  Charlotte

10. Eating Haribos.

And speaking to myself in a baby voice like they do in the adverts. In my head, not aloud. Obviously. It’s good to reconnect with my inner child. I like that guy.  Red

11. Riding my bike.

“My bike” obviously meaning a Lime or Forest e-bike. Riding home through the streets of London, wind (and often rain) in my hair, whizzing past traffic… so much fun.  Tilly

12. Fresh tomatoes.

Specifically from my favourite veg shop in south London. Not all tomatoes are created equal and these ones definitely bring me joy.  Frankie

13. Undisturbed Vinted scrolling.

Call me a sustainable warrior: I can spend hours scrolling through people’s second-hand clothes. I have found so many gems and now I genuinely look forward to my devoted daily Vinted time.  Zahra

14. Eating a satsuma in a hot bath.

Could be quite niche, but don’t knock it til you try it. A hot bath is great for obvious relaxing reasons, but a cold satsuma takes it to the next level.  Cassie

15. Outdoor swimming.

I’m a regular at my local lido. There’s something about a body of water that helps you unwind and destress like nothing else and I love it.  Harriette

16. The front seat of a bus.

The top of a London bus might be the world’s best people-watching spot. Securing that highly-coveted front seat and watching the world go by is one of my favourite simple pleasures.  Chloe
